Your price covers the rehair and fully insured return postage. You just cover sending your bow to us, about £12 by Royal Mail Special Delivery, and we show you exactly how. So the whole thing costs around £90, all in.

How it works

  1. Book & pay online

    Choose your instrument and pay online. Then tell us about your bow and pick the week you’ll post it. We send your posting address, the tube we recommend, and simple instructions.

  2. Post your bow to us

    At the Post Office, ask for “Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm” (about £12). It’s fully insured and signed for. Keep the receipt: it’s your proof of cover. Our packing guide shows exactly how to pack it.

  3. We rehair & return

    We email you the moment it arrives, with a firm return date. Your bow comes back on our fully insured return label, ready to play.

Posting your bow is safer than it feels

We understand. Handing your bow to the postal system feels like a leap. So we keep it simple, and covered.

Everything travels by Royal Mail Special Delivery, insured, signed for and tracked, in both directions. When you send yours in, the counter staff set it all up: just ask for Special Delivery and keep the receipt. That receipt is your proof of cover. The small faff of the queue is exactly the thing that protects your bow.

Fine or valuable bow? For bows worth more than £2,500, get in touch first. Very fine bows are best seen in person, and we’ll happily point you the right way — usually to Barnett Bows.

Top-grade horsehair, hand-selected and spread evenly from end to end, so the bow pulls a clean, even sound.

A clean stick

We clean the stick and check it over while it’s on the bench.

Time to settle

We let the hair settle before final tensioning. That means your bow plays right from the first stroke, not after a week of stretching in. Most services skip this. We don’t.

An honest turnaround

We rehair on Fridays. Arrive by Thursday and your bow is done that Friday, rests over the weekend, and is back in the post by Monday evening. Arrive later and it joins the next Friday. Either way, you get a firm return date the moment it lands.

Who rehairs your bow

Me, Cameron. Every bow that comes through the post is rehaired by me. I trained in violin making, and since my early twenties I’ve studied bow rehair and restoration on the BVMA courses at Halsway and Westhope, with ongoing mentoring from an established bow maker. I’m also a Guildhall-trained double bassist, so I know what a bow needs to do on the string. There’s no team and no conveyor belt.

The same pair of hands every time is what keeps your rehairs consistent. I note your hair and tension on the first one, so the next feels the same without you having to explain anything. If you have a question before posting, it comes straight to me on the contact page.
