The small print, kept small

Terms & insurance

Plain and short. If anything here is unclear before you post, just ask.

Payment

Rehairs are booked and paid for online at the time of booking. Your payment confirms your dispatch window and triggers your posting instructions.

We contact you before any additional work

The price you pay covers a standard rehair. If we open up your bow and find it needs extra work — a worn grip that needs replacing, a loose fitting, a crack that needs attention — we stop and contact you first. Nothing extra happens without your say-so. If you’d rather not proceed, we return the bow with an honest note.

If a bow isn’t worth rehairing

Occasionally a bow arrives that genuinely isn’t worth rehairing. If so, we’ll tell you plainly, refund the rehair fee, and return your bow. Return postage may be charged.

Posting & insurance

Everything travels by Royal Mail Special Delivery, insured, signed for and tracked, in both directions. You arrange and pay for sending your bow to us (about £12; around £15 for a bass) using the address and instructions in your booking email. We arrange and pay for the fully insured return, and email you the tracking number when it ships.

Because you arrange the inbound leg, you are Royal Mail’s customer for that journey and your certificate of posting is the proof of cover — keep it until your bow is home. In the unlikely event of a loss or delay on the way to us, the claim is made by whoever holds the receipt for that leg: yours inbound, ours on the return. We watch your inbound tracking and will always help chase a delay, but we can’t absorb a loss on a parcel we never controlled. Sent by any service other than Special Delivery, your bow travels uninsured and at your own risk.

Value ceiling

Standard Special Delivery cover is £750 per leg, which suits most student and mid-range bows. If your bow is worth between £750 and £2,500, ask the Post Office counter to increase the cover when you post it, and tell us at booking so we raise it on the return leg too, charged at cost. We cannot accept bows valued above £2,500 by post — arrange an in-person rehair or restoration with Barnett Bows instead. By booking, you confirm the value you have given us is honest and within these limits.

Turnaround

We rehair on Fridays. A bow arriving by Thursday is rehaired that Friday, rests over the weekend while the fresh hair settles, and is back in the post by Monday evening. A bow arriving after Thursday joins the following Friday. When your bow arrives we email you its bench date and expected return date, so you always know the timeline.

Your details & preferences

We keep a record of your contact details and your hair and tension preferences, so repeat rehairs are consistent and we can remind you when one is due. We don’t share your details with anyone.
